Secret Weapon's Bag O Crap!

Don't worry, I'm not talking trash about Secret Weapon's products.  Every once in a while, they sell their blemished items in a grab bag of sorts for cheap.  When they do, their self titled "Bag O Crap" contains all manner of bases, terrain, and other bits.  I missed out last time, but I decided to throw down on a bag (I picked up some extra skulls as well) and see what its all about.

I had low expectations.  The picture shown online looked like a sandwich bag stuffed with bases.  The bag was bigger than a sandwich bag, and it was stuffed (and I mean stuffed) with loads of stuff.  When they say these are the pieces of product that have problems, there are small holes and bubbles in some of the base sides and bottoms, but overall, the quality is remarkable.  There aren't many problems that can't be easily fixed with some sort of plastic putty or filler.  In addition to various styles of bases, I found an APC turret (great for terrain or large bases), an objective marker, and a piece of their power generator terrain!  Awesome.

As I mentioned in my last post, I've begun work on the Stitchers and Drifters for Wreck Age.  Tonight, I flocked their bases so I could put a coat of primer on them.  Looking forward to painting these models.  All of the models I've painted for this game so far have been a load of fun.

While I wait for the glue to dry on the Wreck Age models, I figured I'd put down a couple coats of paint on the sorrows and poltergeist for my Malifaux crew.  Pretty happy with the progress so far.  From here, I"m going to go back and work on their skin and details, then go back in with the airbrush to put the finishing pop on the green flames and some OSL.

Thanks for reading.  Don't forget, I have a Facebook page for this blog now.  Please visit and hit like to get updates even more steadily than before.  I'm looking forward to a weekend of lots of painting coming up so please watch for updates soon.  Happy painting!

Litanies of Paint now on Facebook!

Hello.  The number of hits on Litanies of Paint is growing steadily and has grown since its birth about a year ago.  It started as something I wanted to do to keep myself on track and although theres still only a handful of people who come on here, I'd like to continue growing and pushing myself to offer more in the way of articles and how-to's and continue to grow as a painter.

I've loved this hobby for nearly 20 years now and up until a couple of years ago my focus was on playing and collecting, but painting really has become what I enjoy most about this and its become my primary source of entertainment and enjoyment.

So, to reach out to more hobbyists and connect with more bloggers out there, I've created a facebook page.  Please like us on facebook, feel free to post, ask questions, comment, or trash me however you would like on there, but spread the word.  Facebook will allow me to post more pictures and more easily share new posts and updates with those who follow with greater ease.  Again, thanks for reading.  The link is below or you can click on the image to go directly to the page as well.  Thank you and Happy painting!

Change of plans

After finishing the Capybara herder, I'm going to shift gears and work on some other Wreck Age miniatures next before I move on to my other projects.

I got to clean them up tonight and put them on their bases.  I'll flock them tomorrow and prime them on Wednesday.  The models included are 5 Drifters and 3 Stitchers.. and they are probably the coolest looking Wreck Age models yet; the sculpts are very nice and the color palette available for them should be fun.

Here they are.  Other than that, i'm planning on playing a game of Warhammer Fantasy tomorrow.  I haven't played since my mudholing at Adepticon, so a less competitive environment should be fun. lol.

Thanks for reading!

Quite a few updates, as its been a busy couple of days, but I was able to get some time in for everything this weekend.  Played some 40k Killteam on Friday afternoon, with my IG getting stomped out...  Either way, it's put finishing up some more of the guard on my mind, so I'll likely revisit painting some Krieg soon.

I also played some Towerfall with some buddies on Saturday night.  If you haven't played Towerfall: Ascension, the video game, you should drop 15 bucks and get 3 or 4 over to play.  Its a simple 8-bit killfest that will give you hours of fun.

Anyway, thats not why you are reading this, so I'll get around to my progress for today.  I was able to finish up painting on the Wreck Age Capybara herder.  Great model(s)!  Also trying to get better at photography... so bear with me.  I want to put up the gallery soon.

Evil Capybaras?

I was also happy to see that my Butcher made it into White Dwarf (having previously been uncredited in Warhammer: Visions).  Thanks to the White Dwarf team for making it up to me big.  Really honored at all of the attention this model has garnered.  It represented a big step forward for me.

Some day I'd like to have a nice display case for my favorite models and hopefully some awards (still got some things to learn before that can happen).  In the meantime, I put up some miniatures on the shelf and some things I'm proud of.

Finally, I'm hoping to work on my Malifaux crew here soon.  I had a small snafu when one of the sorrows fell off of my shelf during my spring cleaning and his arm was broken.  I did some repairs and also threw the new Teddy model together.  Some cleaning and prep and I'll break out the airbrush and get started.  These are going to be fun and I can't wait to play more of the game.  I'm also planning on taking some of the extra parts from the forge world models I ordered and practicing some techniques and color schemes for the world eaters.

Spring Cleaning

Work work work.  I decided, as I get ready to start a class and begin the summer bustle at work, that I needed to organize things in my apartment so that I could focus and feel more comfortable hobbying.

I think I've mentioned managing my KanBan board to keep up and have some sort of order in my hobby progress.  Seeing how many miniatures I have sitting around made me appreciate that more.  Ugh.

Its been a really long time since FoW has gotten attention

Most of that is New in box...

Dining room madness

Sorry for the boring update, but I felt like I needed to post something and I thought I would share something I'm sure most hobbyists feel at some point.

As far as actual progress - I did get to glue my Tac Squad torsos to their legs tonight and put them on cork bases so that I can prep for painting.  This will probably continue to be a slow week, but I'll post any updates that I have.  Until then, happy painting!

New Step-by-Step is up and I'm working on another

Check out the link to the right or click here for the Easy Rusty Metal tutorial.

Thanks!

Got one coming up also for magnetizing weapons.  Here is a sample - trying to stretch the money spent on my World Eaters!  Thanks!

The World Eaters have arrived

Very excited that my Horus Heresy army arrived from Forgeworld.  This should keep me busy for a while (as if I didn't have enough miniatures to keep me painting for years on end).  I talked about this a little bit after Adepticon, but I'm very much looking forward to playing Horus Heresy as well as putting paint to these beautiful models.  I cannot tell you how detailed they are and how happy I am with the quality.

Years ago in 40k, I played Chaos Space Marines, primarily Khorne, until the rules took a large dump on the Blood God.  I've waited and waited to play them again, salivating over some of the Forge World models and upgrades for World Eaters Chaos Space Marines.  However, when trying to decide on which Legion to play in Horus Heresy, this experience made that easy for me.  I was hesitant to paint a white army, but I think I can make it work and have found some examples from others to get ideas from.

Stay tuned for updates.  I'll leave you with pictures of my loot and the start of my Resin baths - I went ahead and started soaking 10 Tactical Marines, my weapon packs, and a Rhino.  I figure these will give me good practice for the color scheme before I break out the fun stuff.  Thanks for reading and happy painting!

Look at the majesty!

Nostalgiamunda

Really bored and lazy at the moment, so I wanted to share this with the few who read the blog.  Found these a few weeks ago in a box and thought about selling them, but I really think I'm going to put them in a vat of simple green or whatever and pray that the 2-inch thick coat of white primer that 12 year old me put on them years ago comes off.
I think this set makes a complete boxed set for the Necromunda Cawdor Gang, minus the Heavy.  However, I really do think that I have the heavy models somewhere.  The new Chaos cultists also make good expansion for Cawdor, and they were always my favorite.

I talk about Necromunda fairly often and get really nostalgic about playing, because it probably was my favorite GW game of all time and I'm really sad that it has never been revisited.  For all of the grim, dark of the 40k universe, I always felt like Necromunda captured it best because these were the "normal" people that lived in the world.  This is probably why I like Imperial Guard so much (excuse me... Astra Militarum), because they are the "us" in this violent universe.  That... and I love pushing model tanks around the table.

Unfortunately I wasn't really old enough for committed enough when Necromunda was around to really get all of the fun out of it.  I keep saying I'm going to revisit, but its hard to find interest.  Alas, maybe a good scrub on these models and a fresh coat of paint will force me to push the issue.  In the meantime, I'll have to dream.

Thanks for reading!

Rust in Peace

On track so far for progress this week.  I finished the three Ogres that had been sitting on my shelf for months.  In the process, I have taken pictures for a step-by-step tutorial on how I quickly paint rust on my ogres' metal parts.  Easy.  Hopefully, I'll have the pics edited and some time to write up the tutorial in the next couple of days.  Looking at these pics, there are a couple touch ups that are needed, but its getting late.

Got to spend the day Saturday down at Spruehammer in Greenville, KY.  Actually played a couple games of 40k, ate some good food, and had fun with friends.  It's nice to know that I got the chance to play a couple complete games of 6th edition before 7th apparently drops later this month... What a waste.  Got to say, I do like the way the Astra Militarum codex works so far.  Loving the new orders.

While I was down at Spruehammer, I fanboy'd out and bought the new Citadel clippers.  Now... I must say that they are hands down the BEST set of clippers I've ever owned.  You'll see in the pic below that they are MUCH thinner than the old GW clippers and this is a big help when you're trying to clip tiny pieces off of miniature sprues.  The edges are very fine as well and cut through plastic like a hot knife through butter.  I used them tonight on the new Bullgryn kit before I realized I was out of super glue... go figure.  They also feel just right in your hand.  Anyway, if you need some awesome clippers, don't hesitate to drop the cash on these... I think you'll be happy.

Hope to have some more progress tomorrow evening.  I spent some time recently updating my KanBan board and felt a bit overwhelmed, especially with the Horus Heresy stuff on the way from Forge World.  Meh... gonna have to figure out where to find more hours in the day.  Thanks for reading and happy painting!

Thursday, May 1, 2014

Well, got to work on the 3 Ogres that have been sitting on my shelf for quite some time.  Since I am moving on from focusing on the Ogres (I'm going to paint a model here and there - still some things I don't have for the army) I wanted to get them out of the way so I can have less miniatures"in progress."
The Dragon Slayer watches over my progress.

I have been taking pictures to put up a step-by-step tutorial on how I paint and weather the metal for my Ogres.  Once these are finished, I can post it.

Some other updates:  I'm still planning on posting a review on the Foldio lightbox, discussing how I made my own lightbox (once I figure out how to use my SLR camera), and starting a gallery page.  In the gallery, I'll have pics of my finished projects sorted by Manufacturer, army, etc.

I'm planning on heading down to Spruehammer Games to play some games this weekend and hangout so I'm not sure how much progress I'll have this weekend.  I'm hoping to get through these ogres and finish up the Capybara Herder for Wreck Age.

Thanks for reading and happy painting!
